Miami’s Social Media Club

Last night kicked off Miami’s Social Media Club with a great meeting at Out Of The Blue CafeChris Heuer, who is one of the founders of Social Media Club was there to tell us (about 40 of us) what the goals of SMC are and how meetings are typically structured. We did introductions then launched into small group discussions about how social media is affecting the larger culture- specifically an incident with Whole Foods reposting a Twitter feed by a customer that used the term “ef’in” (not the real f-word, but this shortened euphemism). The purpose of the discussion wasn’t to determine right/wrong but to open the dialog about how these new technologies are impacting us through various media channels. And, aside from creating dialog itself SMC also hopes to connect people in real-time so that online social connections can develop into friendships. I’m really happy that community is developing in Miami around tech and social media and look forward to participating more. Oh, and Thanks to Alex de Carvalho for getting us all together!
